I would move to a bigger house, rent out my current house, and buy a beach house (a normal sized one!). I would hire a housecleaner. I would keep working but would work part time and find a way to do some pro bono work (I’m a pediatric occupational therapist)

I wouldn’t do anything with the money (other than invest). I would continue working, stay in my (small for the area) house, and basically live the same lifestyle, although I would stress less at the end of the month when I saw my monthly spending on eating out lol. I would save it for when it was really needed - if a family member got sick, or to send my kids to their dream school, etc. I’m already living my perfect life!

Amazing read. I love this personal finance piece. Moreover, I'd buy a house and rent it out. The rent which I get, I pay it for the house wherever I live. Not buying in the current place is because it lowers the house cost.

Thank you! An investment property would be so cool and another great way to spend the money

I need to have a look at your spreadsheet! I don't even know what I would do with all that money but probably my life would be similar to what it is now with a bigger budget for human and dog food!

so thought provoking. would i pay off the mortgages and live a true debt free existence? sell my house and travel full time?! I'd definitely put more savings into my kids college funds!

I would buy a house in my neighborhood in California, a small house on the east coast near my family, and invest the rest!

This is a fun question 🙂

We have a similar mindset with what we would buy!

Oh man, I love this fantasy. I think about it often and I'd argue if you can't make 10mil work, you're fiscally irresponsible, BUT I live in Northern Michigan, so my cost of living expectations are definitely different and raising four kids in general is not my dream. I'd definitely quit the work I'm doing now, but maybe not quit work forever. I'd just delight in being more choosy about my employment. Definitely part time as a maximum.

I feel the same about work! I feel like whatever amount of money I have, I would still do some work, but ideally something part time I really enjoy rather than something stressful

I would pay off my Home, buy my sisters out of the House we live in, pay my bills, help a few relatives , give some away to people, not charities. I would pay my bills, give myself a budget and live modestly.

This was such a fun post idea and the exact type of hypothetical I want to talk about at a whiskey bar! I, too, think I could make a $430,000 budget work

I'd share the money with my people! After that, do financially responsible stuff like invest and save, buy a home with a pool (maybe make it one of those oxygenating or salt water pools) in the woods near my parents house. Oo or maybe those compounds in Maine that have multiple homes but are going for weirdly cheap? That way I could always provide a place for my fam/friends to gather :) Also get really nice facials once a month, buy art, and buy fine jewelry from early career/independent designers. I think life would be pretty regular, just more comfortable and maybe I'd own some nicer things?
