love this!!! I did the same, got a scholarship to a school where my tuition was practically the same as it would’ve been in state and it was the best decision I ever made ☺️

College was absolutely worthless career wise. It was totally worth it mentally. I love learning and the atmosphere of colleges. Even now, I would attend college all the time simply to learn things, if it was free. But it's not. So I don't. For my degrees, I did the on and off plan for college, meaning I attended when the timing was right.

I sometimes wonder if I made the correct decision to go to a private university in 2009. One hand, I had a great experience in undergrad and grad school, which helped land me my first job out of grad school (a college instructor in beautiful Western Colorado), which helped me land my current job as an Analyst at Community College.

As a first generation American (parents immigrated to the US during the Vietnam War with their respective families as teenagers, met and married in the 90s) and first generation college student, they didn't give me any real advice other than you need to go to college. We never had the conversation about the cost of college, so I just went where I felt was the best for me at the time and pulled out a ton of student loans (federal and private) to get two STEM degrees. I proceeded to gather more debt while getting my master's degree.

I've been pursing PSLF for my federal loans and will be paying my private loans into my 50's. But I frequently wonder if my experience during those 7 years was worth 30 years.

It’s hard to look back on the what ifs! I hope PSLF works out for you. Thanks for sharing your story!
