De-influencing you from buying things you don't need, with some crowdsourced most regretted purchases, plus a chart to guide you through your next purchase
in 2024, i started hand writing all ~things~ i am eyeing about every quarter. it has really helped me stay in tuned with what i actually want/need, buy with more intention and distinguish what is noise (re: social media influences)
When I "need" something I try to "shop the house" first - I read about this strategy in a magazine years ago. Basically walk around your apartment and see if maybe you have something that does what you need. I'll also post in a few group chats - like with my sisters - to see if someone has it
Love this! Thanks for including my reply! One thing that I do that really helps me not buy things but "take action" on them is to create a wishlist in Notion. Then, when I see something online, I can easily share it to my Notion wishlist to check out later. Most of the time I've forgotten about what I shared there and and why, but it's also a good place to save gift ideas or things that I know I'll need to buy in the future but I'm not ready to buy in the moment.
Love the crowdsourcing of purchase regrets, as you say so many of them are very relatable! I’ve created a lust list on my phone where I write down everything I want to buy, I find just noting it down sometimes scratches the itch. I also note the date I added it and try not to purchase anything that hasn’t been on there for a week. Lots of stuff I go back to and think I don’t even remember why I wanted this!
love the flowchart. i definitely apply this to influencer marketing, especially for the little inexpensive things. (that add up over time.) i'll keep it in my cart for a bit and if i find myself thinking about it....maybe it's meant to be.
I usually regret buying something full price and then seeing it discounted in the sales after a few weeks! Of course, uncomfortable shoes have a special place in hell 🤣
Loved this! I'd also say a lot of takeout meals that were expensive and less than satisfactory, just because I was too lazy to whip something up.
I’ve had this one in the past!! Gotten a lot better over the past year
100% cosigned on this.

I love this idea! I've been trying to ask friends this with new clothes, especially formal dresses/fancy shoes that I know I won't wear often
