I was linked here from In Your Purse and I have two boys one of whom is 17 right now. I'm living a new life where I live with my family in Denver over the weekend and have a new job in New York during the week. I just rented an apartment for the first time in 24 years (I'm in Astoria). And your advice is all good for late teenagers.

Thank you! That sounds exciting, I hope you're enjoying Astoria! It's a great neighborhood. If you're nearby, I would recommend checking out Side B, a gift shop there, they have lots of fun gifts (I sell my party game Sidetracks there too!)

I don't know how I was directed to your Substack but I'm glad to be here. I have 2 daughters about your age (25 and 30) living in Brooklyn. All of your advice is on point! I like reading about life in NY from a fresh, young perspective. Follow your dreams! I'm retired. Happy in FL. I make several trips a year to NJ/NYC area to see family and friends.

I wish I could remember why, but I was literally JUST thinking about the Ellen selfie picture a couple days ago. What a different Hollywood! Ellen! Kevin Spacey! Brad and Angelina!

Love this. I'd say it's a gift you don't have a boyfriend because you spent your final years of high school doing theatre and hanging out with far more interesting people who will become the loves of your life. You meet the actual love of your life at 21 anyway which is still wildly young so just chill out. Your hair will calm down eventually so just let it do it's Diana Ross thing. It won't be like that forever. Grey's Anatomy never gets cancelled there are now 20 seasons so you don't need to panic for the next 15 years hoping it gets renewed. It does. Oh and you have kids! Two of them! You love it. Weird right?

Love this advice! Especially about Grey’s Anatomy haha. This reminds me my 11th advice is to stop spending $0.99 or $1.29 for songs on iTunes because Spotify will take over and everything will be subscription

Oh my god yes! I wasted so much money on iTunes songs.

I graduated in 2016, and it's crazy to think how much has happened and how much I've learned since leaving high school. Loved this post! You inspired me to also not attend my future 10 year reunion, and instead, write about I've learned.. & maybe hang out with my 1 high school bestie haha
